An Ongoing Archive of Time, Light, and Materiality

The Concept
ARCHITECTURE of SILENCE in 365 DAYS is a year-long investigative journey into the architecture of time. Each day and night of the year is condensed into a single visual and textual record. It is an ongoing archive that transforms the ephemeral nature of daily existence into a physical, tactile presence.

The Duality

  • Recto (Front): A radical reduction. Each month is synthesized into a singular color field on handmade cotton paper. Using highly pigmented Japanese ink, these works transcend two-dimensionality. They are architectural objects that react to the shifting light of the day—morning, noon, and evening—revealing hidden structures and depths as the sun moves.

  • Verso (Back): The foundation. Behind the silence of the front lies the density of the written word. A rigorous journal of day and night, where thoughts and events are layered into a texture of information, forming the "backbone" of the visual work.

The Materiality
The choice of heavy, handmade cotton paper and traditional Japanese Sumi ink is essential. The paper acts as a resonant body, absorbing the ink to create a three-dimensional relief. This materiality ensures that the Living Codex is not just seen, but felt as a physical manifestation of the passing year.
